Pornstar Daiquiri

Another cocktail fusion. The ever so popular Pornstar Martini and the even more popular, number 1 rum cocktail... The Daiquiri. But first, lets just have a brief history lesson on these two classics.
The Pornstar Martini 
created in 2002, the pornstar martini is probably the most popular cocktail from the 21st century. It was created by a bartender named Douglas Ankrah. At The Townhouse Bar in London. Originally, it was named the Maverick Martini but out of all the pornstar martini questions people have, two are the most asked. one is "what do you do with the Prosecco shot" Do you pour it in the drink? alternate between shot and cocktail? shot the Prosecco first? and the second is "where does the name come from" was it named after a Pornstar who would regularly order the drink? is it because of the sensual process of scooping and eating the passionfruit? is it because of all the "passion" fruit in it? Well I had the pleasure of meeting Douglas Ankrah at a champagne bar in Manchester, and i asked him both these questions. his answers were... They mean nothing. yep, that's right. There is no specific way to drink the drink and no story behind the name. none of it means nothing. 
The Daiquiri 
Unlike the Pornstar Martini, the Daiquiri's history is murky. But thats expected from a drink thats been around since the 1800s. Search the web and you will find theories, upon theories of were this drink originated. One thing we can be sure of is that it was created in Cuba. But instead of filling up more precious webspace with yet another theory on how it came to be. i will instead let you do you're own search, and find one you would like to believe the most. And leave it with this. The facts are, it is a versatile. Classic drink, that although is in the sour family of cocktails. is a category all on its own.

Ingredients

  • 50 ML White Rum
  • 22.5 ML Fresh Lime Juice
  • 15 ML Vanilla Syrup
  • 22.5 ML Passionfruit puree See Recipe Below

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to shaker with cubed ice and shake till cold to touch.
  • Strain out into chilled coupe.
  • Garnish with half a Passionfruit filled with over proof rum, Light the rum on fire and sprinkle powdered sugar on for that tiki flair.

How To Make Passionfruit Puree

  • Cut as many passionfruit as you like in half
  • Scoop the pulp into a blender and add 15ML of water per passionfruit added
  • Blend till smooth, then fine strain into a bottle
